Stirling Timepieces

Gibson - Steel

Strap Choice:

The Gibson is a true pilot’s watch that takes inspiration from historical aviation timepieces with a sleek updated design to suit today's skies. Designed and developed with specifications that today's pilots can be confident in, it was designed for the cockpit but can be worn for any occasion.

The first watch of the Stirling range to feature the SW200 automatic movement, this Swiss made movement is certified for high levels of accuracy at a range of temperatures and finds itself in the top 6% of Swiss movements for accuracy.

The classy stainless steel case design has been produced to fit comfortably on the wrist whilst wearing a flight suit or gloves. Its lightweight feel is perfect for long missions in the sky or prolonged wrist time on the ground. A clear legible dial is complemented with Super-Luminova filled markers and hands meaning operating at low light conditions is effortless.

In the development of the Gibson we teamed up with a serving pilot to design and develop a watch that would suit his specifications. At the forefront of our development was design, durability and accuracy. Constant feedback and research saw us tweak and change its design to best suit the requirements. The timepiece we have today is the result of feedback from numerous hours in the skies and some of the harshest conditions a watch can undergo within a cockpit.

The Gibson is named after Guy Penrose Gibson VC.

Wing Commander Guy Penrose Gibson, VC, DSO & Bar, DFC & Bar was a distinguished bomber pilot in the Royal Air Force during the Second World War.

He was the first Commanding Officer of No. 617 Squadron, which famously he led in the "Dam Busters" raid in 1943, resulting in the breaching of two large dams in the Ruhr area of Germany.

He was awarded the Victoria Cross, the highest award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces, in the aftermath of the raid in May 1943 and became the most highly decorated British serviceman at that time. He completed over 170 war operations before dying in action at the age of 26.

Throughout recent years there has been an increase in the number of current or ex armed forces personnel suffering from mental health conditions such as PTSD. There are currently many ways you can support one another in talking about your problems, but here at Stirling Timepieces we felt we needed to do something to support the community further.

Stirling Timepieces will donate 10% of profit from each sale to Military Charities. Although this is the least we can do, we hope that in our journey to develop and grow the brand we can assist in shining a light on the ongoing struggle for service personnel suffering with PTSD. When you make a purchase through our site you are supporting the wider community, and our vision is to create a community that can come together and help.

PTSD is a topic that is close to our hearts and we have designed our platform in a way that we can raise awareness and financially support the community. Although we have worked tirelessly with our watchmakers to design this beautiful range of watches, we have also set up a channel in which we can support military charities through your purchases.
